Subsidies for the purchase of a CHP plant
A combined heat and power (CHP) plant not only offers an environmentally sound way to generate electricity and heat, but can also offer you significant financial benefits. However, before you decide to purchase, you should thoroughly analyze the costs, potential yield and specific needs of your property. In addition, it is important to explore the available CHP subsidies offered to CHP plant operators. These subsidies can significantly increase the economic viability of your project by providing financial support for the installation and operation of CHP systems. What should you pay attention to?
- Operating hours: A CHP plant should run between 3,000 and 4,000 hours per year. The number of these hours depends on the heat requirements of the building.
- Heat requirements: If your property requires a lot of heat, this can increase the economic viability of the CHP. Remember to use your CHP mainly for base needs and use an additional heat source for peak times.
Furthermore, the use of CHP plants is supported by various funding measures. The spectrum ranges from federal laws such as the Combined Heat and Power Act (KWKG) to funding programs in individual federal states and regional funding programs.
Combined Heat and Power Act (KWKG):
According to the current Combined Heat and Power Act (KWKG), operators of proven highly efficient CHP plants with an electrical output of up to 50 kW can receive funding. The exact funding conditions depend, among other things, on the annual full usage hours of the plant.
- Self-consumed electricity: CHP surcharge for self-consumed and produced CHP electricity = 8 ct./kWh
- Electricity fed into the grid: CHP surcharge for the CHP electricity fed into the grid operator's grid = 16 ct./kWh
- EEX remuneration for the CHP electricity fed into the network operator's network = (determined by the quarterly EEX exchange price)
- Avoided grid charges (VNE) for the CHP electricity fed into the grid operator's grid = (depending on the grid operator)
- Energy tax refund according to Section 53a Energy Tax Act = (depending on the type of fuel used in the CHP plant)
- Savings: Remember, you also save by having to buy less electricity from your utility!
